BIO

Otosirieze is a writer, editor, academic, and literary journalist and blogger. He is deputy editor of the African literary culture website Brittle Paper. He was born in 1994, and grew up in Aba, southeastern Nigeria.

Otosirieze’s short stories have appeared in The Threepenny Review, Transition, and in Pride and Prejudice: African Perspectives on Gender, Social Justice and Sexuality, an anthology of the 2016/17 Gerald Kraak Prize for which he was shortlisted. His work has further been shortlisted for the Miles Morland Writing Scholarship in 2016 and a Pushcart Prize in 2015. He attended the 2018 Miles Morland Foundation Creative Writing Workshop facilitated by Giles Foden and Michela Wrong. He is currently a judge for the 2018/19 Gerald Kraak Prize.

Otosirieze is the curator of the Art Naija Series, a sequence of themed e-anthologies of writing and visual art exploring different aspects of Nigerianness. The first, Enter Naija: The Book of Places (October, 2016), focuses on cities in Nigeria. The second, Work Naija: The Book of Vocations (June, 2017), focuses on professions in Nigeria. The third, Beats Naija: The Book of Music, is forthcoming. He is nonfiction editor at 14, Nigeria’s first queer art collective. 14 has published two volumes, We Are Flowers (Jan. 2017) and The Inward Gaze (Jan. 2018).

Otosirieze has a combined honours bachelor’s degree in history and literature from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He taught English at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu for eighteen months. He is currently completing a postgraduate programme in African Studies.

Otosirieze has completed a collection of short stories, You Sing of a Longing, and is working on a fat, confusing novel. He is represented by David Godwin Associates literary agency.

In his spare time, Otosirieze meets up with writing and ghostwriting deadlines, and is always, always available for more. He writes a personal blog, The Coo of a Blue-Plumed Bird, which will become a book of essays. When bored, he just Googles Rihanna. Or buys yet another set of earphones.
